Don't Cook Cinderella Published 2006 |
My son always loved playing school, but all he ever wanted to do was to take the register. Unfortunately, there were 30 children in his class, and he and I would alternate calling out their names, and replying, “Here Miss.”
One day I could take it no longer, and instead of saying, “Emily?” I said “Three Little Pigs.” Josh immediately replied, “Oink, Oink, Oink.” The entire idea for the book came to me in that moment: all the fairy tale characters in school together. The nice ones like Cinderella and Little Red Riding Hood would be in the Infants and taught by Miss Good Fairy.
The bad ones like the Wicked Witch and the Ugly Stepsisters, would learn how to cook children and poison apples, etc., under the expert guidance of Miss Bad Fairy.
